Die, Ants! Die! Your Non-Toxic Approach

Die, Ants! Die! Your Non-Toxic Approach. My six year old Zoe loves ants.  The ants are her buddies.  I can’t tell her that I hate the ants because they’re disgusting and intrusive and unsanitary.

And I can’t poison them because Zoe picks them up and croons lovingly to them.

Plan B.  Mix two tablespoons of borax with jam, jelly, honey or syrup until there is a paste. Smear some on some paper or a plate and put it where the ants are at. They should flock to it and eat it and take it back to the nest and it will act as a natural ant killer.  This has worked beautifully.  Now, to distract Zoe with ladybugs, or something…

You can bring Zoe to my yard. A run-in with fire ants will quickly cure her of any love for ants.

I haven’t tried borax for fire ants. I’ll have to see if it works for them.

    “disgusting and intrusive and unsanitary”
The first two I’ll take as comment and opinion, but the third one is completely wrong. In fact we ants are used by some cultures e.g. Australian Aboriginals, as antiseptic for wounds. An ant has an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial secretion that they coat on their exoskeleton.
Personally I think humans are pretty disgusting, meat bags that leak fluids. Your kind are covered in bacteria and fungal spores. You kill us without a thought. Who’s disgusting and intrusive now?

Dear Ant King: I am sorry I hurt your feelings. I appreciate you sacrificing yourself to nourish the Aborigines in the Australian outback. But maybe we can agree to share my backyard if you stay out of my kitchen. Deal?

Will borax hurt a small dog,if she ate the borax jelly?
