Eating Single: 5 Dinners, 5 Days, 1 Trip To The Grocery Store. Our new morning show is a podcast, and we’ve ended up with a sudden flood of Millennials listening to the show. I got a complaint the other day that everything seems “married and family-oriented,” and they’d like a little representation. Request heard, sister!

A recent study by MertetMoneyWatch.com showed that the more you’re in the grocery store, the more likely it is you’ll gain weight, overspend for the items you’d planned on, and walk out of the store with an average of 3 things you hadn’t intended to purchase.

Being single makes it worse.  It’s sooo much easier to pick up takeout, eat over the sink, live on Malt-O-Meal and baked potatos. (Editor’s note: yes, that is autobiographical.)  From the evil genius of Men’s Health magazine, here’s a week’s shopping list and 5 dinners.  One trip!  Look how clever you are!  This list is for one, so simply add on however many you’re cooking for.  These meals are all 450 calories or less.

 

 

YOUR SHOPPING LIST
Produce 1 pint cherry or grape  tomatoes 2 bell peppers (1 red, 1 green) 1 large Spanish onion 1  jalapeno pepper 1 package arugula 1 bunch broccoli rabe 1 bunch  cilantro 1 head garlic
Meat 1 whole chicken (3–3 1/2 lb) 1 package (1 lb) hot Italian sausage 1 package (1 lb) smoked turkey  sausage 1 lb skirt steak
Grocery 2 whole-wheat sub or hero  rolls (8-inch) 1 can (14.5 oz) stewed tomatoes 1 can (28 oz) whole San  Marzano tomatoes in juice 1 can (15.5 oz) black beans 1 small package (10  oz) corn tortillas 1 lb fettuccine
Dairy 1 small container  (8 oz) sour cream
Pantry items (always keep these in stock) Kosher salt and black peppercorns Extra-virgin olive oil A block of  Parmesan cheese Dijon mustard Balsamic vinegar Hot sauce
