Free–Or Cheap–Weekend Family Fun Along The Wasatch Front: Memorial Day Edition


Did you suddenly remember today that “oh, crap.  It’s Memorial Day weekend, huh?”

It’s all good–take a look and see what’s going on.  Broke or flush with cash, we’ve got something you’re going to love.  I’ve included some events that might involve a day drive, since hopefully you have a free day or two this holiday weekend.



Tea Party at Gardener Village: throw that fancy dress on your little person and bring her in for a proper tea party at Gardner Village, 11a-4p.  Gluten free treats even avilable, and everyone takes a little porcelain fairy doll home!  Cost is $12 per person, and you may want to reserve your spots here.

James Bedingfield, retired Navy Commander speaks in honor of the Armed Forces for the Memorial Day luncheon at the South Jordan Community Center, 11:30am.  More info here.

Spring Art Show: Bountiful/Davis Art Museum, 11-6pm. Free.

Zoo-Rific Memorial Day Celebration: Willow Park Zoo in Lehi.  Activities are free, but the Zoo requires admission fees that go to the fundraiser.

Cowboy Poetry & Western Music Festival: Antelope Island State Park.  There’s even camping, horseback rides, music, stories…and the event is based on a donation for the Huntsman Cancer Insitute. Starts at 6pm.

Teen Laser Tag Party: Kearns Library, 6:15pm.  The event is free, but you’ll need to register in advance

SL Bees vs. Fresno Grizzlies: what’s more All-American than baseball?  6:30pm, and tickets run $5-$25.00

Gifts For Our Heroes: Performance Auto is offering FREE $50.00 dinner gift card for past and present miliary and first responders.  Just show an ID to get your gift card and a “thank you!”  No strings attached.  Go here to find a location near you.  The offer runs from today through next Friday.


Scandinavian Festival Fun Run: Ephriam, 10am.  Cost is $10.00.

Moab Beer, Arts & Wine Festival: starts at 10am, runs through Saturday.

Superhero Puppet Crafting: Lakeshore Learning Store, 11a-3p.  Free, and there’s a 20% coupon here to use if you want to shop.

Swaner EcoCenter presents Earthwings: meet the Park City center’s newest star, a baby Eurasian Eagle-Owl!  11:30, admission is free.

Free Film Saturday “Frozen” at the Bingham Creek Library in West Jordan at 2pm.  Admission is free.

Free Film Saturday: “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs Part 2” at the Weber County Library, Main Branch. 2pm, admission is free.

REAL Salt Lake Soccer: our guys are the only team in Major League Soccer!  We take on FC Dallas tonight at 7:30p.  It’s Todd & Erin Night–we’ll pick someone to make a kick worth $50,000 if you make it!  There’s just a few tickets left by checking here.


Superbike Shootout: Miller Motorsports Park.  Erin here: I took a run on the track Friday with a stunt rider–150 mph!!!!  Tickets are $6 for all day, kids are free.

Utah Olympic Park: thrill-seekers take note: the park is open for the summer hours and the zip lines, ropes course, Alpine Slide and Bobsled track are open!  Some rides are a little spendy ($75 Bobsled) to cheap ($5 Alpine Slide, kids) but worth it! Hiking and more.  Noon to 6pm.

Museum Of Natural History Chocolate Blast: you don’t want to miss the incredible Chocolate Exhibition! 3:30pm, admission to museum required.

Wheeler Farm: play at a real working farm!  Admission is free, but activities like the pony rides and wagon tours do cost a little.  Open daily 10am-6pm.


Go Gray For May: 5K and Walk at Librarty Park.  7am, $25 for adults, $15 for youth.  Register here.

Hike Timpanogos Cave: fascinating underground journeys and a cute Jr.Ranger Program!  Summer hours are open: 10a-8p, closed Sunday, tickets are $8-$4.

Museum Of Natural Curiosity: open at Thanksgiving Point, the museum is a fascinating tour of the oddball and amazing.  10a-8pm daily, closed Sundays.  $15 adults, $12 kids.

Free Family Art Night: Bountiful/Davis Art Center has free art projects for the whole family.  Free food, games and you might want to register in advance here.  7pm.

Wild West Days: Heber Valley Railroad, all day.  Gunfights, steam trains and more.  $15 per person, 3-7:30p.

Free Family Yoga: Sweet Branch, SLC Library.  7pm, free.  Great way to get in shape for summer!
