We’re proud to say that Utah was voted “Most Geeky In The Nation” for our love of all things Nerd-tastic. But everyone can love the Annual Free Comic Book Day–where graphic novelists, artists, writers and fans are sharing free comic books. There’s activities in nearly every city–find your closest one here with some tips to really enjoy the day.
Free–Or Cheap–Weekend Family Fun Along The Wasatch Front
Stories From Around The World: storytellers at BYU weave tales from around the world for your little people–free, 11am at the BYU Museum of Peoples & Cultures.
Friday Free Kid’s Film: free kid’s movies every Friday afternoon at 3pm, SLC Main Library
First Friday Art Stroll: join everyone free at the BYU Museum Of Art for food, conversation and art appreciation. 7pm.
Sensory-Friendly Free Family Film: courtesy of the Utah Film Center, a free showing of the adorable shorts from the film festival in a more senory-friendly showing. Free, 9:15am at the SLC Main Library.
March of Dimes March For Babies: wonderful fundraiser for education and research so that every baby is born healthy. Gateway Mall, SLC, 9:30am.
Mark Miller Subaru Givaway: There’s still keys to be won that could start that brand, spanking new Subaru and you’ll drive it free for 3 years. Free food, music, prizes and charities to share. Activities start at 11am, and run through 3pm.
14th Annual Safe Kids Festival: Davis County Fairgrounds. Free festival with all kinds of activities and prizes for kiddos. 10a-1pm.
Holi Festival Of Colors: SLC Krishna Temple. If you missed the wonderful celebration in Spanish Fork last month, be sure to stop by the SLC event–there’s music, food, dancing and of course–the colors! Admission is free, prices for food and such are low.
SLC Live Green Festival: free festival at Library Square downtown–exhibits, water-wise gardening tips, music, prizes and where to find green resources in your community. 11am-4pm.
Free Comic Book Day: an annual nationwide event to Get Your Geek On…all manner of free comic books and tons of activities at various graphic novel stores. Here’s a list of tips for getting the most out of the day and a list of local participating retailers.
Craft Sabbath: free crafts festival at the SLC Main Library–wonderfully subversive and interesting art, gifts, food, clothing and music. 11am-5pm.
ATK Ready For Launch: free exhibit at the Clark Planetarium of the history of rockets, boosters and things that go “boom!” Noon to 5pm.
