I Did Not Know That! Getting The Mysterious Stink Out Of The Kitchen. So, I cleaned the fridge. The stove. Mopped and waxed the floor. Bribed one of the kids (who’d been especially bad this week) to wash out the garbage can. Kitchen still has that creepy, vague, mysterious odor. So when people walk in they do that automatic sniffing thing that makes me feel like even more of a slovenly housekeeper than I am.
So, what was it?
The stupid dishwasher! Here’s the answer:
(Editor’s note: great to remember for move-out or in as well)
Place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher. Using the hottest water available, run the dishwasher through a cycle. The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitizes, and helps remove the musty odor. Next, sprinkle a cupful of baking soda around the bottom of the tub and run it through a short cycle. The baking soda will help freshen and removing stains…. good to do every 6 months.
